J.S. Bach Goldberg Variations BWV 988 Booklet info: Recording date: Moscow 1979 Total time: 1h 23m 11s Released: 2CD JVC Victor VICC40126/7 Remastered. Released in Japan in 1992
The Difference Both CDs are taken from the same recording tape. No doubt. The original recording is made in 1979 in Moscow and released as Melodiya C10-13091 (2LP). The booklet of the Relief is incorrect regarding the date. Please do play both tracks down here. But ..... as mentioned by Yoshiro Shikata [ link: a+30+a' Goldberg Variations website ] the timing of both CDs differ from each other. And this is correct: for example the Victor JVC Variation III takes 2 minutes 11 seconds and the same Variation on Relief takes 1 minute 8 seconds, this is the actual track time, but ..... checking the two Variations III a little closer the little secret of the Relief CD is solved in no time. The Relief release is played without repetitions and the Victor JVC is played with repetitions, this simple, ofcourse Tatiana Nikolayeva played all repetitions !! The Relief people took all effort to cut / edit the original recording, I guess with in mind to release the recording on one single disc. Anyway, do check out the music samples and the original sheet music of the Variation III down here. Track 1: Variation III as released on JVC Victor in 1992. Track 2: Variation III as released on Relief in 1987.
